Matt and Kim headlined Siren Fest last Saturday. Having playing Siren Fest ‘07, this time the closed it out! And goddamn, nothing makes me happier. To see these two headlining a stage like that the weekend before they leave for Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival (where they play everyday) just makes me shed a single tear. It’s like my buddy Tao said, “There’s plenty of people out there winning, but Matt and Kim are the two I really want to win.”
Playing through most of their album Grand, Matt and Kim staggered their 80 minute set with endearing interludes including a riff on “Better Off Alone” by Alice Deejay and a some a cappella R Kelly. Not to mention a crowd-surfing booty dance by Kim, who could barely keep her shirt from falling apart. She’s been wearing that damn “Brooklyn” shirt for years.
And that’s the best part of Matt and Kim. They’re still all smiles and extremely humble. Seeing them play Siren Fest ‘10 ain’t too different from seeing them play in my friend’s kitchen on the corner of Willoughby and Franklin. Except that was 2003. And I love you even more now. Don’t slow down!
